Hunted - Episode 8 - 22 November 2012

Hunted - Episode 8 - 22 November 2012

In the final episode, SNOW MAIDEN, Byzantium is ordered to kill Jack Turner, but when the assassination attempt fails, Sam is exposed as a spy, and trapped inside the house. Turner produces the evidence he has against Byzantium's client, while Sam - secretly being poisoned to death - at last begins to recover terrible memories that explain why the Hourglass conspirators want her dead. And we have more news on the sequel series!

Meanwhile, Frank Spotnitz, the creator of the format, has confirmed a second series will be produced. When hunted down by BBC Radio, Spotnitz said: "There's going to be another series with Sam Hunter, but it's going to be a different format to what we saw this year." This reflects our speculations at this very Lex Shrapnel website earlier this week that this would be the case.

There are suggestions that the possibility of HBO/Cinemax moving on without the BBC was always allowed for in the original deal, especially as the BBC took a long time to make up their minds to go into co-production on the format. Arrangements apparently allow for a new production partner to be sought - although the second season was announced as being set in Berlin, which would have opened the way for German co-partners, but apparently the BBC dropping out has put paid to this, according to an interview Frank Sptnitz has given to DigitalSpy.

Cinemax are very happy with the show's performance in the USA. An initial audience of some 250,000 viewers was made up for by its huge numbers via On-Demand services, which took the audience up to 1.7 million for a premium paid-for show (echoing in some ways the fact that nearly 40% of the UK audience didn't watch the show at the time of its original broadcast).

Spotnitz has also let the cat out of the bag by noting the series was originally written for GILLIAN ANDERSON, former star of The X-Files, to be in the title role of Sam. Ms Anderson had wanted to play a character which would be a female equivalent to the big screen's Jason Bourne. However, other commitments ruled her out, and a casting call of some 200 actresses then ensued.

Melissa George has confirmed she will continue with the project, but has gained notoriety in Australia where she became frustrated with journalists constantly asking about her role in Home & Away many years ago.  It's probably a good thing she wasn't looking too hard at the British press, which tended to take the same sort of slant. The show debuts on SBS in Australia on 24 November 2012.
